IT'S ONLY BLACK and WHITE

Group Exhibition

The phrase "black and white" is deceptive in that it conveys a simplicity, of perfect boundaries and easy judgments.  Yet in the work displayed in this month's exhibition, It's Only Black and White, the viewer is introduced to a minimalism born out of exacting detail from the laborious efforts by the artist.

Color is a fundamental aesthetic that can easily disguise flaws and distract the viewer with its showiness.  Through the sole use of "black and white", the artist is forced to rely on other variables that constitute the word "beauty."  The featured artists in this exhibition exemplify the grace and art in a world unhindered by color.

The exhibition includes new black & white paintings by Jason Bryant, Kevin Cyr, David Kaelin; photographs by Jennie Barrese, Louise Daddona, Sarah Kaufman, Michelle Nixon, Ricardo Yamamoto; mixed media works by Shinji Turner-Yamamoto, Robert Kent Wilson; and drawings by Miriam Castillo, Kim Sillen Gledhill, Jee Yun Lee, Kellyann Monaghan, and Jennifer Murray.

Please join us in seeing the world through a different light at the opening reception, April 23, 6:30-8:30 PM, 16 W. 23rd Street, 4th Floor.
