THE YOU IN ME: NEW PHOTOGRAPHY BY JENNIE BARRESE

Jennie Barrese's body of work exemplifies the use of both her right-and left-side functions of her brain. Over time, Barrese realized that her artwork captured not only her creative side, but science, more often than not, found its way into her creations as well. Like many photographers, Barrese experimented with optics and chemicals. She found a fascination with both the behavior of light and the chemicals used in processing images. Barrese embraces the scientific aspects of photography and considers it an important part of her final work.

Barrese begins her projects in a "lab" setting, observing the different functions of material and their effects on a processed image. Following a series of trial and error, Barrese stumbles upon a set of materials that appeal to her eye and transitions over to her "creative side" by taking the risk of leaving the final outcome up to her imagination.

The "You In Me" is the photographic result of an entirely new series of experiments for Barrese. Solely working in black and white Barrese has captured a compelling amount of texture in this body of work.
